Dr. Susan Smith is a proud Groves graduate - class of 1998. She attended Miami University in Ohio, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in Adolescent Education- Language Arts. She would go on to complete her master's in Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati prior to earning a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Miami University.

She taught English for four years, and then became an assistant principal for an additional seven years at Colerain High School in Cincinnati. She was the first female principal at Northwest High School in the same district in Cincinnati, where she would serve in the role for seven years. In 2020, Dr. Smith and her husband moved back to Michigan, and she was honored to return to the high school she loved to serve as principal.
